We are expanding our employee health and wellness initiatives and are seeking a skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our multidisciplinary medical team.
Position Overview
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to Port Authority employees. This includes mental health evaluations, medication management, crisis intervention, and supportive therapy. The PMHNP will collaborate with physicians, occupational health providers, psychologists, EAP counselors, and external specialists to address a wide range of behavioral health needs in a workplace setting.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct psychiatric evaluations and provide diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management
Deliver short-term, evidence-based interventions for mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance use, and stress-related disorders
Monitor treatment outcomes and adjust plans as necessary for optimal patient care
Collaborate with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and occupational health team on mental health referrals, case management, and workplace reintegration plans
Respond to mental health crises and provide on-site or telehealth support when needed
Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in electronic medical records
Participate in wellness and mental health awareness initiatives and staff training programs
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and relevant federal and state regulations
May provide telepsychiatry services across Port Authority sites, as needed
Qualifications
Required:
Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
Active and unrestricted NP license in New York and/or New Jersey (must be eligible for both)
DEA registration and authorization to prescribe controlled substances
Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in psychiatric or mental health settings
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment
Proficiency with electronic health records and telehealth platforms
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between facilities as needed
Preferred:
Experience in occupational health or workplace mental health
Familiarity with trauma-informed care, first responder support, or crisis intervention
Training in evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, ACT, motivational interviewing)
Prior experience in a unionized or public sector environment
