Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Services team. The ideal candidate will deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care in a dynamic occupational health setting. This role focuses on employee health and safety, injury care, preventive services, and regulatory medical screenings. The position may involve working across various Port Authority facilities in both New York and New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care, including assessment, triage, treatment, and follow-up for work-related injuries and illnesses
Support and coordinate occupational health surveillance programs (e.g., hearing conservation, respiratory protection, lead/asbestos monitoring)
Administer vaccinations and conduct health screenings (vision, hearing, blood pressure, etc.)
Maintain accurate medical records in the electronic health record (EHR) system
Provide health education and counseling to employees regarding disease prevention, wellness, and self-care
Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with examinations and procedures
Support emergency preparedness and infectious disease response efforts (e.g., COVID-19 testing or vaccination)
Ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory health and safety standards
May be required to travel to other Port Authority locations for coverage or special assignments
Qualifications
Required:
Current Registered Nurse license in New York and/or New Jersey (must be eligible for both)
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing)
Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, preferably in occupational health, emergency care, or ambulatory care
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills
Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office Suite
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between Port Authority facilities
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN or COHN-S)
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards
Experience in a unionized or public sector environment
